Ontario's Boreal Forest
Ontario’s Boreal Forest is one of our best defenses against global warming. It provides a home and livelihood to First Nations (indigenous) communities and is vital habitat to threatened woodland caribou, wolverine and many species of songbird. By protecting the Boreal, Ontario can enjoy the cultural, economic, and natural values of the forest, and capture part of the rapidly growing market for environmentally friendly wood and paper products.
Currently, less than 10% of Ontario’s Boreal Forest is protected. It is being logged at a rate of an acre a minute, 24 hours a day, much of it to make things like catalogs, junk mail, magazines, newspapers and toilet paper.
